2021 Season Update

Floresta Families,

It's been a while since we've updated you on the league and our hopes/plans/dreams for a 2021 season.  First, we hope that you and your families are staying safe and are doing well.  We so badly want to get out and play ball, and we place the health and safety of our players and their families above all else. That said, here's what we know, and what the board is exploring for the 2021 season.

The COVID-19 numbers continue to trend in the wrong direction, and we're following all requirements and closures until the state and Alameda County make adjustments that would allow a return to play.  The City of San Leandro has opened their field application window, and we have applied to have practice/game fields should the city be cleared to open.  The San Leandro Unified School District has not made any determinations on when/if their fields will open. Note that although we've applied for city fields, we won't be issued a use permit until the county has cleared a return to play.

Should we be able to begin play with sufficient time to have a proper season, we'll jump at the chance.  If health and safety protocols don't allow for full baseball, the board is examining options to have smaller camp-like activities to work skills.  So, we ask for your continued patience as we all work through these trying times.

Finally, we are happy to report that the Oakland A's have continued their support of our league as part of their Future A's program.  The program is a little different this year, as the MLB season is up in the air.  Instead of having tickets to games and complimentary uniforms, the A's are providing a cash donation to the league!  Thanks, Athletics!

One last request...we have a few openings for board members.  Our non-profit league is only successful because volunteers step up to help with league operations, fundraising, and problem solving.  If you're interested in helping out, please send a note to [email protected].
